About

The Ipswich & District Cycle Association is an informal name for the collection of club time trials to form a league. There is no formal constitution, no treasurer and no chairman, it is just a league in name only and is not affiliated to any governing body nor does it have any of its own insurance. All evening time trial events in the series are individual club events run by their own individual club organiser. The club organiser is responsible for notifying the East Region of their events, police notifications, collecting of fees, booking and paying for HQ’s as required, risk assessments, marshals, signage and payment of CTT levies. Once the levies and other event expenses have been settled there is an agreement between all organising clubs that the leftover money is given to Paul Moss. This money is then used to provide an end of season presentation and engraving and provision of trophies and medals. Anything left is then distributed evenly between the organising clubs so that clubs are not penalised for cancellations and/or poorly attended events.

The idea of the Time Trial series is to provide friendly but competitive time trialling based around five local courses. Points are awarded for finishing positions in Seniors, Veteran 40+, 50+ and 60+, Ladies and Lady Veteran 40+, 50+ and 60+, Junior and a road bike category. There are 25 events this season (24 to count, the last one is a “fun” event and doesn’t count to the league points) and your league position is based on your best 12 races (If  3 events are cancelled counting rounds will go down to 11, 5 cancelled down to 10, 7 cancelled down to 9)

This popular time trial series will be under way again on 30th March 2021, starting at Henley Community Centre for two, one lap (5ml) TT’s, for an easy start, before heading to our more traditional 10 mile course at Crowfield Village Hall for four weeks (all on Tuesday evenings this year), and then moving to Holbrook for four new events run by Orwell Velo. Next at Battisford Free Church for a further four weeks , before moving on to Copdock for the next four Wolsey events. Last four counting events will be at Tunstall on a Thursday run by Plomesgate and then the final “fun” 2 up 5 mile TT followed by the prize presentation at Henley on the 31st August 2021

See our results page to see how local riders have performed in this season-long series. Come and have a go, all you need is a bike (with a working rear light for the early events) and your entry fee (a crash hat and parental consent if under 18). (What is Time Trialling?)

Everyone is welcome to come and have a go. Any bicycle can be used as long as it’s roadworthy. Newcomers are always made welcome. If you would like some more information please visit our Facebook page or email admin@ipswichdistrictcycleassociation.com or contact any of the participating clubs.
